Rodeo Cake for Wayne's Birthday

Wayne is my soccer coach's little cutie and he, somewhat inexplicably, is a big fan of bull riding. So when his three year birthday rolled around, that's exactly what he asked for on his cake. (And I was happy to deliver as it was easier to do than that fire truck cake!)

The strategy this time was to come up with something to match his invitation and this pretty much does the trick. His invitation had a bronco rider on it -- so I made this variation to make his bull rider wishes come true.

This used my tried and true butter cream frosting with a golden vanilla cake. Yum!

Happy Valentine's Day

This cake was made for a teammate of mine this Valentines day. It was a sweet and simple way to say Happy Valentines Day...

Happy Birthday!

This was a bright birthday cake made just for my mom. Frosting roses are her favorite, this cake was made that in mind. Happy Birthday Mom!

Butter Cream Dream

I think I made this cake "just because" -- plus I wanted to perfect a butter cream frosting technique that looks smooth (like fondant).

It tastes awesome -- unlike fondant -- and holds up to fanciful decorating as well.

Biology Never Tasted So Good

This might be my favorite cake of the year. Grissom's biology class was awesome and a cake was long over due, so I finally cranked this one out.

I did this in a cartoon style -- with images along the sides that matched up major themes of the things that we discussed in class.

Soccer Season Finale

When the high school soccer season wrapped up, I figured that would be a good time to finally make the team a cake. So I put together this design for our banquet dinner. This one was a family favorite too -- as the soccer ball design is fun and it really pops out at you.

The little grass edging along the bottom is a nice finishing touch and helps pull everything together.

Fire Truck Cake -- Take II

When Coach Womack's son Wayne had his first birthday, she wanted a fire truck cake for the party, similar to the one I made earlier in the year.

These 3-D carved cakes are a little difficult and time consuming -- but Womack is a great coach -- so I was happy to put in the extra work :)

My First Competition

In February, I entered my first cake competition - the Capital Confectioners Cake and Sugar Art Show. After lots of idea shopping and planning, I finally chose this interesting painting technique for my entry.

The day of the competition was a blast -- we stayed for 8 hours watching all kinds of cake exhibitions and browsing hundreds of amazing entries.

Holiday Cheer

This Christmas cake has white-on-white snowflakes, green trees and a little red bow.

It's hard to see in the picture, but there are white sparkles on the cake that give it a glittery feel.

Old Time Cherry Pies

Although I'm not a fan of cooked fruit, my brother Zack goes fairly crazy for anything like that. So he enjoyed these cupcakes that are styled as old fashioned cherry pies.

Happy Halloweeeen

Over at Pluck, my Dad's company had a big Halloween party for all of the families -- with more than 30 little goblins coming in for fun and games.

I made these Halloween themed cupcakes to put a little spice in things.

Hero

Coach Sheer's boyfriend was recently deployed to Iraq as a fire fighter. A hero like that deserves a special cake.

This one was carved from three different sheet cakes and covered with hundreds of piped stars. It was trimmed with ladders, hoses and more -- all handmade from royal icing.

We're all waiting for the return party -- and I'm ready to make your welcome home cake!

Fore!

Little Dara was only turning six -- but she's crazy about golf. So I created this golf themed sheet cake complete with a crushed graham cracker sand trap and perfectly cropped fringe.

Frosted Flowers

Sometimes you just make a cake because you want to make something pretty.

Fresh flowers look great -- but don't taste so good...

Sweet and Swirly

You have to make something this pretty for a Mom as special as mine.

Happy Birthday, mumsie.

Feliz CumpleaƱos !

My Reynosa buddy Russ was having a birthday party and his special request was something Mexican to commemorate our good times south of the border.

Muy delicioso!

Don't Mess with Texas

A family friend was throwing a welcome back to Texas party for someone special -- so I created this fruit topped treat for all to enjoy.

Texas has never tasted so good.

Ace of Cakes

The Food Network's Ace of Cakes, Duff Goldman, made a trip to Austin for the Super Chef Live event at Barton Square on Saturday.

Duff is the "bad boy" of cake decoratinaking -- and his show is quite popular. He makes extreme cakes and does crazy things like blowing them up. In person he is a lot of fun and a really cool guy.

He worked on a guitar cake that had a real neck and he actually played it at the end. Rock on.

When he finished he signed autographs for hours and even signed my apron. It was a very sweet day!

Big Gulp King

Good ol' Mr. King is well know for his strange attraction to all things 7-11. Slurpees. Big Gulps. Panini. Taquitos. Go figure....

So I put this little cake together for him ...

Grandma Sue's Birthday Cake

When Grandma Sue came to Texas for a visit, we whipped up this little treat for her.

Raspberry filling made from fresh berries with lemon whipped icing.

Lucious!

Daisy Delight

I made this cake for no special reason, it was just for a little bit of tasty fun.
